Synopsis: L.D.W.'s story is unique yet universal, and thus the story of even,-man. For in On A1y tourney North the author tells of the particular events that shaped his own life and molded his character; yet all who read this work can readily identify with many of his feelings and experiences. The author's candid autobiography begins as he quickly traces his family history. His forebearers were slaves before the Emancipation, but this stigma never prevented our author from accomplishing whatever goals he had set for himself. From this viewpoint, L.D.W. begins a historical treatment of his life, skillfully interweaving the good and bad times along with the light and serious moments. For example, outwitting the "feds" during prohibition was a serious undertaking for L.D.W.'s family who made their own bootleg whiskey; yet the anecdotes describing the family's machinations to elude the law are hilarious. There are more tense moments when a solitary L.D.W. finds himself exposed to a maneating cougar-or so he thinks-and it turns out to be a bull calf. An angry pistolwhipping girlfriend is also menacing until L.D.W. finds his way out of that situation.
