Half-inch chip from head of spine, edges slightly rubbed, slight foxing on title page, a very good or better, bright copy. An inexpensive railway format edition of Twain's first book, first issued in this format by John Camden Hotten in 1867 under title: *The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County and Other Sketches*, and reissued here by Ward, Lock, and Co. Based originally in Fleet Street, the firm outgrew its offices and in 1878 moved to Salisbury Square, London, thus our attribution of the publication date circa 1878. A beautiful copy of a scarce English yellowback edition.
