8Lg. vo (23.5 x 20.0 cm). Collected original fasciles bound in moderen speckled marble paper boards and gilt red buchkram. Collation: 268 pp. + 36 lithograph plates (34 hand colored) with 1315 depictions of European bettles hand colored. There is some foxing to text, plates with marginalia in pencil. This is a rare collection of original fascicles dated 1843. Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Berge was a noted German naturalist, ornithologist and entomologist who had written and illustrated exceptiona works on beetles, butterflies and birds. The present copy of Berge s treatise on beetles is a fine and scarce collection of European beetles with 1315 hand colored specimens on 34 plates. (Hagen p. 43; Nissen ZBI 321).
