Description:

1st Printing. Signed. Unpaginated. Published in 2003. The author's debut children's book. One of Jeanette Winterson's and Jane Ray's finest creations. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions, particularly the American Edition. The British Edition is superior to the American in every respect. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. An enchanting production by Jane Ray and Sarah Hodder: Oversize-volume format. Glossy pictorial hard boards with black titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Text by Jeanette Winterson. Art by Jane Ray. Printed on thick coated stock paper in Hong Kong to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents Jeanette Winterson's "The King of Capri". An original fairy tale about reversals of fortune, beautifully illustrated from cover to cover by Jane Ray, the award-winning artist/illustrator of numerous children's books. "The King of Capri is so greedy that he wishes he had two mouths with which to feed himself. Meanwhile, across the bay in the city of Naples, the washerwoman Mrs. Jewel barely manages to feed herself and her very skinny cat. But one night a great wind blows in and carries everything away from the King's castle, towards Naples, and into Mrs. Jewel's yard. The King is left alone and forlorn as everyone leaves Capri to visit the generous Mrs. Jewel, who has become the Queen of Naples. When he goes to make this new queen's acquaintance, the King of Capri and the Queen of Naples fall in love and they have nothing left to wish for" (Publisher's blurb). A gem. An absolute "must-have" title for Jeanette Winterson and Jane Ray collectors. This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed in black pen on the title page by both Jeanette Winterson and Jane Ray. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. This title is now collectible. As far as we know, this is the only such double-signed (signed by both the writer and artist) copy of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. A rare signed copy thus. One of the most brilliant novelists, in collaboration with one of the finest children's book artist/illustrators of our time. A fine copy.
