Wear to extremities with the corners just barely worn through, spine ever so slightly faded, top and bottom of spine just barely beginning to fray, cloth relatively clean, gilt bright, previous owners' signatures in ink and pencil on front free endpaper, else very good to near fine with no other internal markings. Caroline Brown [1852-1931] also wrote ON THE WE-A TRAIL (1903), DIONIS OF THE WHITE VEIL (1911) and BOLD ROBIN AND HIS FOREST RANGERS (1905). KNIGHTS IN FUSTIAN is an historical novel concerning the Knights of the Golden Circle set in Indiana during the Civil War. "The Knights of the Golden Circle (KGC) was a secret society. Some researchers believe the objective of the KGC was to annex a golden circle of territories in Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean for inclusion in the United States as slave states. Others suggest that the members proposed a separate confederation of slave states, with US states to align with others in the Caribbean circle. During the American Civil War, some Southern sympathizers in the Northern states such as Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa, were accused of belonging to the Knights of the Golden Circle, and in some cases were imprisoned for their activities.
