About this Item

The Kamasutra is not a handbook on sex. It`s classical text with philosophical implications even though it does not delve into the metaphysical aspects of the subject and does not even mention the temple dancers, much less a cosmic principle of unity. Nevertheless, the opinions it expresses are significant not only in themselves but also as reflecting attitudes of the historical period in which it was written. While he was leading the life of a religious student, Vatsayana read and considered the works of ancient authors and thought of the meaning of the rules given by them and documented the ways of enjoyment mentioned in them. And while he was holly engaged in the contemplation of the Deity, he composed the Kamasutra according to the precepts. Concepts: Introduction 1. Life of a Citizen 2. Love Making 3. Courtship 4. Marriage 5. Other Men?s Wives 6. Courtesan 7. Love Potions Printed Pages: 216. Bookseller Inventory # 28107
