About this title

Synopsis:

In August of 2005, while the southern region of the United States braced for the impact of Hurricane Katrina, Eric began writing, giving birth to his book release, "KATRINA...In the Aftermath of a Killer." Little did he know that Katrina would develop into a category 5 hurricane before slamming the city of his birth, totally devastating the Crescent City. Hurricane Katrina is without a doubt one of if not the most devastating hurricane to impact the continental United States in this century. Marooned in a lifeless city for five days, Author Eric Dunbar describes his personal experiences in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina as she unleashed her fury on one of the nation's heavily populated cities, the city of New Orleans. Could there have been a faster response on the part of the United States Government? Was it bad judgment or lack of ability on the part of thousands of people who chose to stay as opposed to leaving? These are just a few questions that Eric seeks to answer. Learn the real reason why thousands of people did not evacuate in the wake of this devastating monster.

From the Author:

This is not a book about hair-raising, make you want to cry stories. It is a book about tragedy—that perhaps could have been averted, it is a book about the pain and misery of the unfortunate citizens of New Orleans who were too poor to evacuate the city in the face of Hurricane Katrina. Lastly it is a book about the healing of a people of great faith who have been displaced from their homes and scattered across the United States of America from California to Maine.

Not knowing what the future holds, picking up the pieces of one’s life can be a most distressing task. But the most difficult task of all is trying to understand how the desperate cries for help from so many people could have gone unnoticed for so long in a country of modern technology—a country like America.

The numerous news accounts and photos of the heartbreak and despair left by Hurricane Katrina only give a glimpse of what it was like to live through such horror. I am a Hurricane Katrina survivor, and neither pictures nor words can reveal the real horror of being in the aftermath of a killer storm like Katrina.

It was unfortunate for me that I could not vacate the city before the arrival of Hurricane Katrina so I had no choice but to stay and face the unknown, and although I had previous experiences with hurricanes, I never thought I would be marooned in a lifeless city, surrounded by death, for five days. Accepting this awful catastrophe and loss of life is very difficult for me; the pain, the suffering, the emotional trauma of loosing everything to the fast rising flood water that took everyone by surprise is just too much to comprehend. The memories of being face to face with so many people who were hopelessly drowned in their grief are most painful and hard to live with. Their ghostly eyes will forever remain in my memory.
