A 19th century gift book containing stories, essays and poetry, including work by Felicia Hemans and Anna Savage, among others. GOOD condition. Moderate chipping to the leather along the lower extremities. A few small insect holes in the leather along the front fore edge. General fading and minor scuffing. Leather split and worn, with some insect damage, along the upper and lower hinges, affecting an inch or two. Interior solid, with scattered foxing, mostly to the pages facing the illustrations. Pelton [ 1798 to 1882] was most well known for engravings depicting America's first president George Washington. These 4 magnificent engravings far outweigh the value of the book itself. They are all tissued, but show paper age, acid or oxicidation marks. All 4 are suitable for framing. These engravings by O. Pelton are true works of art themselves. Photos available upon request.
