About this Item

Dodd, Mead and Company, Inc., NY. An autobiography of the adventurer. Collings was US Marine pilot in WWI, a barnstormer after the war and later flew for Pan American Airways while he also wrote aviation stories. Liberty Magazine sent him to Ethiopia to cover the Italian invasion in 1935 and he was in Czechoslavakia in 1938 when the German took over the country. He was killed in 1941 when his ship was torpedoed while on his way to fight for the British before America was engaged in WWII. The book is signed to Bill Schwendler and his wife. Schwendler was one of the founders, chief engineer, executive vice-president and eventual Chairman of the Board of the Grumman Corporation. Both Schwendler and Collings were from Long Island.
