About this Item

Previous owner James Whitfield Chambers of Clinton, Miss. has dated July 5, 1930 and signed to the FFE. Laid in is a hand-written penny postcard addressed to Mr. Chambers, postmarked Lexington, Va. July 3, 1930, advising Mr. Chambers "Mailed you this P.M. your copy of 'Our Kin.' . . . Do hope you will like the book and feel nearer to your kindred in Virginia. Please write me what you think of 'Our Kin' when you have looked it over thoroughly. We thank you for your patience and co-operation," etc., (signed) Mary Dunham Ackerly. This is a stout octavo in green cloth, 819 pp. including index and bibliography, illustrated with some surprisingly high-quality B&W photographic portraits reproduced on glossy stock, along with a nice photo of Thomas Jefferson's old estate, "Poplar Forest."
