About this Item

Printed wraps, with decorative borders on the front and ads on the rear. Pagination runs 103-196. A single issue of this literary magazine featuring essays, poetry, etc. Of note is a 2 page account in the Editor's Table section of the magazine, discussing American Flying Machines and proposed balloon travel from the United States to England. This includes brief mention of a Mr. Wise and his petition to Congress, as well as a lengthy account of an unnamed gentleman from Perth Amboy, New Jersey and his efforts to secure capital for his trip to London, England and the 1851 fair that was to be held there. Brief discussion of feasability is included, although more attention is paid to the financial efforts. The Mr. Wise mentioned is most likely John Wise of Pennsylvania, noted for his experiments in aeronautics and balloons, setting some distance records for balloon travel before disappearing in 1879 during a trip. FAIR/GOOD condition. Rear cover very chipped, tattered, torn and creased along the hinge, with some loss and being somewhate tenuously attached. Front cover torn along the upper hinge, with a small fold/crease in that area. Mostly minor soiling, and minor scattered staining to the wraps. Some creasing and general fading. Price in pencil at the upper right corner. Scattered foxing to the interior, mostly to the first and last few pages. Text block solid. Bookseller Inventory # 006226
