About this title

Synopsis:

This wide-ranging book reveals the truth about knights from the days of Biblical chariots to the Knights of the Jedi.

From School Library Journal:

Grade 3-6?Ross describes the presence and roles of the knight throughout history. The roughly chronological presentation discusses ancient chariot riders, Hannibal and the Roman cavalry, Charlemagne, King Arthur, Samurai warriors, and Mongols, and stretches the "mystic of the mounted warrior" into this century to include World War I pilots ("Knights of the Skies") and Canadian Mounties ("Police Knights"). In addition, short chapters on chivalry, arms/armor, castles, and feudalism are included, as well as short profiles on famous and legendary knights (e.g., St. George and Sir Gawain). The book is profusely illustrated with full-color photos, reproductions, drawings, and movie stills. Although this title is by no means outstanding or comprehensive enough for even rudimentary reports, it will hold broad appeal for recreational readers. Geoff Dann and Chris Gravett's Knight (Knopf, 1993) is a better choice for research.?Ann M. Burlingame, North Regional Library, Raleigh, NC
