About the Author:

Merle Hodge is a retired Senior Lecturer of the University of the West Indies, St Augustine campus. She taught in the University s programme of English composition course for more than 20 years, directing the programme for 15 of those years. She has also taught creative writing and courses in West Indian and African American literature. She is the author of two novels: Crick, Crack Monkey (London: Deutsch, 1970) and For the Life of Laetitia (New York: Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1993).
