About this Item

Firts edition. Hardcover. 115 pp. Illustrated with photographs. Fine in near fine dust jacket with a short scuff lower portion of the front panel. One of the least common of all Burroughs' works, a "film script" of the last day in the life of mobster Dutch Schultz, imagined by Burroughs based on transcripts of Schultz's hallucinatory ramblings as he lay in a hospital bed for 24 hours after being gunned down in the Palace Chop House in Newark, New Jersey on the night of October 23, 1935. Taking as pont of departure Dutch's "last words", Burroughs creates his own fantasy of Schultz, implying that if we had been able to inhabit Dutch's mind during that last day, and record the result on film, this is what might have been seen. Peopled by such characters as Mad Dog Coll, Legs Diamond, Lucky Luciano and so on. Bookseller Inventory # E16360
