With a total of 47 plates reproduced from the original lithographs. 4to, publisher’s original black/red cloth lettered in gilt on the upper cover and spine. In the original illustrated dustjacket 129, [2]. A fine copy of the book, the jacket with minor chipping or creasing along the edges or folds, still quite attractive. A handsomely produced collection of plates by Daumier that originally appeared in the "Charivari" between 1845 and 1848 of judges, lawyers, their clients and other gentlemen of the Law and Justice. The quality of the reproductions in this printing were so good that the publishers altered their size so no that no claims of forgery could be made.
