Description:

First edition (not stated). 95 pages. Staple-bound paperback: H 24cm x L 15.5cm. Royal purple paper covers, color fading along spine with ends worn, covers' edges overlap that of text block with resulting bumping and wear, front cover's gilt stamping remains bright. Foxing/toning to edges as well as to first and last leaves; a few spots of minor soiling to interior pages which otherwise remain quite clean. Binding is firm. A very good- copy. OCLC cites copies at five member institutions although without any distinction as to edition for there was a reprint issued circa 1970 which is easily distinguished by several characteristics but most notably by having significantly duller purple paper covers (instead of this first edition's royal purple covers) which are trimmed evenly with the text block edges. Book Description Agricultural College [State College - Starkville], MS: John Wendell Bailey, Lee Guard Company of 1920 and 1921, [circa 1970]., 1970. Undated but circa 1970 reprint of the original 1921 publication. 95 pages. Paperback: H 22.75cm x L 15.25cm. Dull purple paper covers rubbed, color fading/toning along spine and along top of front cover, slight scuffing at spine ends, front cover also has small stain at top right but retains reasonably bright gilt lettering. Interior pages remain quite bright and clean. Binding retains some crispness. Laid-in is an April 1971 letter presenting this copy as a gift from a Jennings, Louisiana car dealer to an Ackerman, Mississippi resident. This circa 1970 reprint edition is easily distinguished from the scarce 1921 first edition by having dull purple paper covers (instead of royal purple) which are trimmed evenly with the text block edges thus having fractionally smaller dimensions, interior matte finish (instead of glossy) sheets, a glued "perfect" binding (instead of a stapled signature binding), and also lacks the "Tucker Printing House Jackson Miss" imprint at the foot of title page.
