About this Item

Very good in an elegant contemporary red morocco binding with gilt borders and spine lettering and decoration. The leather show some rubbing, at the edges of the spine and front and rear panels. With the additional engraved title page. There is an undated but contemporary ownership inscription and light foxing especially in the opening portion of the text. A well-regarded and influential book of Christian guidance. Virginia Cary was a member of the Randolph family of Virginia and, at the time of writing, she appears to have been living at Monticello with her brother who had married the daughter of Thomas Jefferson. The text appears free of markings except for a very faint underlining on p.99 at the phrase, "Warm affection finds pleasure in submission.". Bookseller Inventory # COB060003
