Book Description Miram Lutcher Stark Library, University of Texas, 1942. Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition, Limited Edition. Austin: Miram Lutcher Stark Library, University of Texas, 1942. Limited Edition designed by Carl Hertzog, numbered 132 of 165 copies on colophon at back. Card reading "Gift of Mr. H.J. Lutcher Stark" signed with compliments by Margaret Lee Wiley, the book's editor, laid in at front. Double-fold paper covers, hand sewn with square back. 15p. Tipped in photo frontis and one letter facsimile. Slipcased. Outer tissue cover shows an inch tear at bottom corner, with a crease running down to bottom edge, along with a smaller tear at back and a couple light bumps. Paper covers are clean and crisp with faint shelfwear. Binding is sound and pages are unmarked. Slipcase is tape repaired at both top and bottom (apparently common) with browning underneath, though top edge has come undone and is split. The book was paid for by H.J. First edition, edited by Margaret Wiley. One of only 165 numbered copies printed by Carl Hertzog. Includes the laid in Stark gift card. Printer at the Pass Lowman #18. Mr. J. J. Lutcher Stark figted the six Lanier letters to the University of Texas. They are Lanier's correspondence with Colonel John James, Superintendent of the Texas Military Institute in Austin. James and Lanier had much in common. They had served in the Confederate Army. James came West and adapted to life in Texas. Missing tissue spine, slipcase prev owner had placed tape on the top & bottom edges, discolored along the edges of slipcase from green to brown. Size: 8vo - Over 8" - 9" Tall.
