About this Item

112pp, 51 duotone illustrations. This lovely volume is the reprinted edition of "The New Industrial Parks Near Irvine, California" - Lewis Baltz' landmark typological study that virtually single-handedly gave birth to the "New Topographics" movement. A brand new, pristine example of the first printing of the 2001 RAM Publications and Steidl Verlag edition (the original is cited on pages 298-299 of The Hasselblad Center's "The Open Book", and pages 228-229 of "The Book of 101 Books") additionally SIGNED AND DATED "Lewis Baltz 2001" in the year of publication in pencil on the front pastedown in the publisher's grey chipboard slipcase with pastedown. About this title

Synopsis:

From the publisher: "As a young photographer, Lewis Baltz became fascinated by the stark, sometimes repellent, manmade landscapes fast replacing the mostly agrarian Southern California. The photos he made became a portfolio, New Industrial Parks Near Irvine, California, and when they were first published in 1974, Baltz was hailed as the father of a new way of thinking which resonated with photographers around the world. The Topographic movement unflinchingly details the landscape of construction sites and suburban sprawl, turning utilitarian, anti-artistic sites into works of strange, minimalist beauty."
