Small dimple to front upper board, Vol. I. Occasional uncut pages. Original publisher's blue cloth with black and red lettering on tanned paper spine labels. Top edges gilt. No date but c. 1880s. Portrait of Dickens by Daniel Maclise to title pages. Illustrated black and white plates by "Phiz" aka Hablot K. Browne, with tissue overlays. Clean and very solid! 400 / 420 / 414 pp. This was Charles Dickens's third novel. It is the story of Nicholas Nickleby, his mother and younger sister, Kate, who are forced to give up their comfortable life-style after the death of Nicholas's father. They travel from Devonshire to London to the home of their uncle Ralph Nickleby hoping for help.
