Two volumes in wonderfully colorful shape after over 140 years. Volume I from 1864 and Volume II from 1862. Both books have marbled boards with one quarter beige leather and beige leather corners. The books spine tips and corners are bumped and worn and both books have edge wear and some mild rubbing to boards. Book Volume II has chipped spine tips with 1/4" missing across top and 1/8" across the bottom. Both books' spines have two spine labels and 5 raised bars with gilt accents and 4 boxes with gilt designs. Volume I's labels have worn off except around edges but the imprint is legible on the blank leather behind where the label was. Volume II has both black labels with bright gilt all legible with minor cracks to label and tiny chips around edges. Text block dyed with marbled pattern to match boards on all three sides. Frontispieces both in Very Good condition still under original tissue with Volume I having black and white drawing by Vanderlyn from Paris 1805 with Irving's facsimile signature (dated 1808) underneath. Volume II's illustration of Irving is from a picture by Stuart Newton dated 1820. The endpapers are also marbled and on thick paper stock. Both books are VERY GOOD with binding and insides tight, bright, clean and unmarked. Hardcover, Volume I 463pp, Volume II 492pp. Bookseller Inventory # 002272
