About this Item

The new and revised edition. With 14 black and white plates from photographs of classical works of art at the Vatican, British Museum and other locations plus four maps or plans and a two page genealogy of the Ptolemies. Large 8vo, publisher's original blue cloth lettered on the spine in gilt. xi, 443, [2], 2 ads. An attractive and very usable copy, the cloth with some minor mellowing but very solid and sturdy. The text block very good and clean but for some barely noticeable light and unobtrusive evidence of damp to the bottom outside corner occasionally through the final pages of the book. AN EXCELLENT AND VERY READABLE STUDY OF CLEOPATRA, HER TIMES AND THE EVENTS IN EGYPT AND ROME PERTAINING TO HER, CAESAR, ANTHONY AND OTHERS. This history/biography is by one of the great students and educators on ancient Egypt. Weigall was the Inspector General of Antiquities for the Egyptian government and staff member of the Cairo Museum. He was author of several books on Egyptian art and ancient personalities such as Cleopatra and Tutankhamen. The book cleverly uses surviving classical portraits and statuary of the personalities involved for illustrations. Bookseller Inventory # 26179
