About this Item

Cover title: Litchfield. (16 cm.) 16p. Profusely illustrated with eight full page black and white captioned photos. Stapled booklet in grey wrappers printed in black. Wrappers somewhat soiled, staples show just a bit or rust, previous owner's signature (F.B. Mason), minor dampstain damage to extreme edge of last photo where it stuck to previous page (but not affecting photo field), else very good to near fine with no other internal markings. According to the web site of the Litchfield Historical Society, one Frank B. Mason owned #25 Meadow Street from 1920-1937. [It is not known if this person is the same as the F.B. Mason whose signature is in the book.] Penciled inside the front wrapper along side F.B. Mason's name is the following: "Photographer moved from Millerten." [Could this be the person whose photographs are included in this book?] Photographs include the following: South Street, Corner of Wolcott Street; On Bantam River; South Street Looking South; Echo Farm Dairy; The Hawk House; The United States Hotel; North Street Looking North; and On Bantam Lake. "Echo Farm Company was formed by Frederick Ratchford Starr in Litchfield, Connecticut to bottle milk to sell in Brooklyn, New York. Although Starr bought milk from many dairies in the area he also had a dairy herd of his own known as Echo Farm Dairy." OCLC shows only one holding library: Connecticut State Library. A rare piece of Litchfield ephemera. Bookseller Inventory # 006027
