POGANY, WILLY (Illustrator). THE TALE OF LOHENGRIN: Knight of the Swan. Adapted from the work of Richard Wagner as interpreted by T.W. Rolleston. London: Harrap, [no date, but 1913]. First Trade Edition. 4to. Stunning FINE copy in super ornate original publisher's brown cloth, gilt. Still housed in its original publisher's pictorial slipcase with original paper label. Large and impressive volume which, having been protected by the box, looks almost new. There is just a tiny bit of abrasion to one little spot on the lower cover, hardly worth mentioning. One of Pogany's greatest accomplishments with every element of the book design done to his visionary standards. There are 8 tipped-in color plates, many astonishing full page black & white lithographs, loads of other original design details, all printed to remarkable effect on heavy gray paper. Both the paper used for the text and the paper used for the slipcase are exceeding prone to wear; this is just a superlative example. Bookseller Inventory # 001475
