About this title
Many controversial topics had captured the interest of Allison Tyler-Wilcox in her 13 years as a journalist, but the idea of writing about the often-divorced never crossed her mind. Not, that is, until she encountered Jake Sorenson, a man who had been unsuccessfully married seven times, and by his own admission, had not closed the door on the possibility of tying the knot again. Convincing her skeptical editor that she was on to a compelling story, Allison begins her quest for understanding the resiliency of the human heart at the Buckin' J Ranch, with Jake Sorenson as her primary source of research material. What she didn't realize until she came face-to-face with the highly charismatic man once again was that she was outmatched by Jake, an individual who had learned far more about love and life than she at first appreciated. From the Author:
Lucky at Love was a joy to write. The characters practically invented themselves. All I had to do was set the stage and turn Allison loose on Jake up at his breathtaking 1,500 acre ranch in Eastern Oregon. Making Jake a mule breeder and trainer gave him the wily confidence that initially intimates the hard-boiled journalist. From then on, I just had to give them the floor and do my best to keep pace with their verbal jousts. I threw in supporting characters in the form of ranch hands and current girlfriends, plus the long roster of pervious loves. Allison's supporting crew is, by contrast, pragmatic to the point of being dull. Leaving Jake's world leaves her feeling vaguely lost and unsure, something she's never experienced before.
I won't spoil the story, but I have to say the ending was not the one I had been shooting for. It's my personal theory as a writer, that if you create characters who are believable and whose points of view ring true, you can't make them do anything they wouldn't naturally do; to force your will on them would undermine the integrity of the story. Like I said, I just stayed out of the way and let the story unfold. I hope you will enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it.
