Book Description Schocken Books, 1976. Paperback. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Trade Paperback in Good Condition. 34 illustrations. White and peach illustrated wraps, a few colorless spots on front but clean with light wear around edges, spine creasing; tightly bound. Half title page and title page are loose from binding. Hinge cracked in the center of the book. Pages clean and free from any markings, toned. On July 13, 1848, five women met over tea in a small upstate New York town. The next day there was an announcement in the local paper inviting women to attend "A Convention to discuss the social, civil, and religious condition and rights of women". A few days later the American women's rights movement became a reality. Miriam Gurko traces the course of this movement from its origin in the Seneca Falls Convention to the passage of the 19th Amendment in1920 giving women the right to vote. And she examines each of the founders-Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Mott, Susan B. Anthony, Lucy Stone and others. 328 pages including The Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions, Chronology, Bibliography and Index. 5.25 x 8 inches. Schocken Books, New York, 1976.
