About this Item

Green cloth, black/gilt titles with pictorial scene at front board. No DJ. With illustrations by Vernon Howe Bailey and Lester Ralph. First edition (P m,y), SD. Best known for his novel The Virginian, Wister although born and raised in Pennsylvania, was fascinated by the American West. He was also quite prolific in various genres; in particular the short story. This novel also memorable for its invention of the cake named after it, perhaps personifying the 'Southern' flavor of the novel. Book very good with sound hinges and solid binding. Titles worn and rubbed at spine, one or two stains to cloth at back board, wear to cloth at edges, top edge soil. 406 pp. Bookseller Inventory # 14072
