About this Item

Short story collection. Crown octavo, pp.xviii; 538. Publisher's dark blue cloth with gilt 'HJ' monogram device to upper, gilt titles and trim to spine. Minor spotting, most sections uncut/unopened. A particularly fine copy. Although un-numbered, this was issued as part of 'The Novels and Stories' collection published between Jan.1921 and Nov.1923. The printing of the present title comprised just 2000 copies and the book includes a lengthy introduction by James; the text follows that of the New York edition and was the definitive version with extensive revisions.
