Octavo hardcover in emerald green cloth lettered and decorated in black and, gilt front board illustration of the title character, duplicated and with gilt lettering on the spine strip. 467 pp. Engraved frontis and first title page with ikages that also later appear in "Hunted Down"; one additional plate and several partial-page drawings also in "Hunted Down" which is the only illustrated tale in this volume. Includes the first book appearance of Queen's Quorum #4 "Hunted Down" also by Dickens (which has previously only appeared in a newspaper); the first book appearance of Willkie Coillins' "Ghost in The Cupboard Room", the first book apearance of "Ghost In The Garden Room by Elizabeth Gaskell. Also contains "The Detective Police" as well as several other "nouvellettes" by Dickens, "The Haunted House" by Dickens, "The Ghost In The Clock Room" by Miss Hesba Stretton, "The Ghost In The Double Room" (G. Augustus Sala), "The Ghost In The Picture Room" (in verse by Miss A. Proctor). Wear at the head and foot spine edges and a trifle rubbed along the outer hinges; bit of loss to the front endpapers from previous adhesions; very light tidemarking to the outer edges of the text block not affecting the text.
