About this Item

The Phenomenal true story of an Italian dog who became internationally famous because of his traveling on trains all by himself. This is a gem of a book. Published in 1963 (copyright in 1962) by Pantheon. This copy is Fine inside and out, clean and bright boards and sharp pristine titles, some softening at top of spine, unmarked inside. Dj has some edge wear on the corners and at the head and tail of spine, price intact ($3.50), on the cover wrapper is a b&w photo of Lampo in a box car and the rear wrapper also has Lampo on a train, a little rubbing on the back wrapper. If you do not collect this book at least read it. Inside are numerous full page photos of Lampo and the railroad employees and the freight cars. The book was written by Elvio Barlettani, "an assistant stationmaster at the railroad station of Campiglia when Lampo made his home there. Mr. Barlettani, his wife, and their six-year-old daughter were adopted by Lampo and became 'his family.' After Lampo's death (1961) Mr. Barlettani decided to write the story of this dog as a tribute to him. His simple and vivid style conveys his deep attachment to his friend." **Collectible and scarce.**. Bookseller Inventory # 000441
