Edited by Malvina Stephenson and Tris Coffin. Introduction by Lyndon B. Johnson. 8vo. Yellow cloth, pictorial price-clipped dust jacket. 380pp. Near fine/very good. Mild jacket edgewear. Early (not first) printing of the Oklahoma governor and senator's study of conservation, bearing a choice autograph addition: Tipped to the front flyleaf is a pristine presidential bookplate signed by Lyndon B. Johnson, who provides the book's introduction. A calligraphic and typewritten inscription reads, "To / Chicago Public Library / With my / best wishes," below which LBJ signs boldly. Accompanied by a photocopy of the original letter of transmittal from LBJ (dated 1971 April 2) sending this copy to Ralph G. Newman (1912-98), founder of Chicago's noted Abraham Lincoln Book Shop and president of the Chicago Public Library - who chose to keep it rather than add it to a collection he had given the CPL. LBJ notes, "As usual, you have performed in an efficient and effective manner. I think you have done a great public service for your area in establishing an environment and ecology collection in your library and Bob Kerr's book is one which should certainly be in it. I am happy to autograph the enclosed bookplate.". Seller Inventory # 20115
