About this Item

first edition (not stated), clear plastic cover taped over the dj so that it is protected but cannot be removed; aside from the taping, the dj appears Near Fine; the cloth binding cannot be accessed but appears to be in the same condition, the foreedge shows some foxing and a rub mark at the bottom; from the library of the linguist Glenn Gilbert with Gilbert's inscription on the front free end paper and underlining and marginal notes, overall rating VG+; this book would be of interest to collectors of books on the fate of the many non-English languages in the U.S. spoken by sizeable numbers of people; the association with me may also be of interest as I was one of the leading researchers in this area in the 1960s; cloth covers appear gray and the dj is done is a striking American flag motif -- red, white, and blue; 4to - 10 1/2 inches high, 478 numbered pages. Store Description

Triple G Books is owned and operated by an emeritus professor of linguistics, who was also an ardent book collector over the period 1954 to 2007. Books for sale range from linguistics, pidgin & creole languages, sociolinguistics, anthropology, education, and comparative religion through modern first editions and German and Scandinavian books. A number of the books are valuable and hard to find, as for example a 1/2-leather-bound first edition of Alfred Russell Wallace's The Malay Archipelago (2 vols.), recently sold for presentation to the Mayor of London on his visit to Malaysia, and a first edition of H. G. Wells' The Time Machine, a novel of the 19th century pointing to a scary future, a continuing revelation to me. Triple G Books stands back of its books in every way.
