Custom-bound in contemporary three-quarter red calf and red cloth, calf ruled in gilt; spine lettering gilt; spine ruled in gilt; top edge gilt; marbled endpapers. Head of spine very slightly chipped; extremities rubbed, and spine slightly age-darkened; otherwise a tight, very bright copy with virtually crisp interior and many pages still unopened. Related by Sir Walter Raleigh, Sir Richard Hawkins, Ian Huygen van Linschoten, Lord Bacon, and Sir W. Monson, together with The Most Honorable Tragedie of Sir Richard Grinuile [Grenville], Knight, by Gervase Markham (1595). Edited by Edmund Goldsmid (1886). Bound in with The Life and Times of Christopher Columbus, Translated from the French of A. [Alphonse] de Lamartine (1887). Bibliotheca Curiosa, 4 vols. in one. xix + 66 + 72 + 64 + 78 pp. Each volume has title-page; also reproduces original title-pages of A Report of the Trvth of the Fight about the Isles of Acores this last Sommer (1591) and Gervase Markham's extended ballad, The Most Honorable Tragedie of Sir Richard Grinuile, Knight (1595). The Columbus biography is by 19th century poet and politician, Alphonse de Lamartine.
