About this Item

1/60. Folio. Unpaginated. 12 loose leaves housed in their original red cloth portfolio with title pasted on front cover. Title page in red and black lettering. Limitation page signed by both the author and the artist. Late novelist Ray Bradbury (1920-2012) was not only one of the most celebrated practitioners of science and speculative fiction, he was also a painter, and a poet. This first edition of the author's poem "The Last Good Kiss" is delightfully accompanied by three original color linoleum block prints by artist Hans Burkhardt*, whose abstract contributions in deep red and yellow bring to mind the crucible of "Fahrenheit 451." Each print is numbered, signed and dated by the artist. One of 60 copies printed on Arches paper, of which this is No. 29. Portfolio slightly stained on front cover and along edges. Portfolio in overall good+, interior in very good condition. *Hans Gustav Burkhardt (1904-1994) was a Swiss American abstract expressionist. Burkhardt's ability to evoke compelling works of human empathy has led several of today's preeminent art historians and critics to regard many of his paintings to be among the major works of our time. for example, that the art he created in response to war - beginning with the Spanish Civil War in the late 1930s and continuing through World War II, Vietnam and Desert Storm - represents a body of work unprecedented in the history of art. In his drawings, primarily through the use of the figure, has reflected the same richness of expressionism and symbolism for which he is known in his paintings. His unique role as an important American painter is affirmed by the constant interest and continuing reassessment afforded his work. In 1992, Burkhardt was honored as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award by the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters' Jimmy Ernst Award. Also in 1992, he established the Hans G. and Thordis W. Burkhardt Foundation. Bookseller Inventory # 37295
