About this Item

London, 1868. 8vo, later blue cloth, 314 pp. An uncommonly well preserved copy of this post Civil War era travel narrative, rebound in later blue cloth with gilt lettering. "Zincke loved travel. In September 1853 he visited Ireland and became convinced that the distress there was due largely to English misrule, particularly by absent exploitative landlords. In 1867?8 he visited the USA and gave an appreciative view of the country in Last Winter in the United States (1868). A visit to Egypt was recorded in print (1871) and he published three books on travel in Switzerland (1873, 1874, and 1875)." - DNB. A well preserved copy overall. Bookseller Inventory # 15513
