About this title

Synopsis:

In David G. Lanoue's fanciful, comic second novel, Laughing Buddha , anything can happen--and plenty does. The narrator from contemporary New Orleans journeys to the Old Japan of "geisha, samurai, and mad, moonstruck poets" on an undercover mission to solve a literary mystery: Why did the poet Buck-Teeth stop writing haiku after a certain lunar eclipse, and what could be done to help him recover his inspiration? Disguised as a Buddhist priest, bumbling through time and space while avoiding the ninja weapons of the evil critic Nakamura; our hero discovers that Buck-Teeth's writer's block is no mere academic problem but a grave matter with lives and poetry hanging in the balance.

About the Author:

David G. Lanoue is a Professor at Xavier University in New Orleans, and the author of Haiku Guy, Issa: Cup of Tea Poems, and Pure Land Haiku: The Art of Priest Issa.

Store Description

The Reader's Corner is such fun,it's too bad you have to buy our books on line. We have eight foot tall outside bookshelves across the entire front of the store. There is a money slot in the door for night sales, which go to support National Public Radio. Inside, which can be too crowded at times, are surprisingly good books, only 1% are ever listed on-line. We also sell records, music cd's, comic books, mags, computer software and games. Best of all is the found art decorating every spare spot. The motto on the front door: NO SHOOTING, NO SMOKING, NO MOONING THE MANAGEMENT.
