Book Description London, Smith Elder and Co, 1868. 1st Illustrated Edition 4to 320 x 255mm 198pp gilt edged with frontispiece, 7 engraved steel illustrations, 2 colour chrome-lithographs and 69 vignettes. Hardcover in original ornate red cloth bindings with elaborate gilt and black decoration to front board. Cloth is worn in places along edges and spine has been renewed with red leather. Contents are clean. Written between 1848 to 1861, Queen Victoria's journals describe, in lively style, her love for the beauty of the Highlands 'so wild and grand', and the activities in which she and Prince Albert participated when they were there.
