Book Description G. P. Putnam's Sons, New York, 1957. Hardcover. Condition: Good. New Edition.. 416 pages. Hardcover, no dustjacket. Good condition. UNITED STATES CIVIL WAR. Long out of print and unavailable, Lee's Dispatches, from the Private Collection of Wymberley Jones de Renne of Wormslee, Georgia, has become a classic in Civil War libraries. Since a new edition seemed called for, the editors of G. P. Putnam's Sons have done Civil War enthusiasts a real service in reissuing this volume. Not a word of the ordiginal edition has been changed. Ten dispatches which were not available when the original edition was published are included in the Appendix. Although revealing nothing revisionistic about lee, these new dispatches do further illuminate certain aspects of his character by indicating his feelings about various individuals and events. Includes an Index. (Key Words: Robert E. Lee, Military, Letters, United States Civil War, Douglas Southall Freeman, Grady McWhiney, Jefferson Davis, Grady McWhiney, Confederate States of America, York River, West Point, Jackson Winchester, Virginia, General George C.
