About this Item

(3 pieces) Approx. 10" X 6" folding brochure printed on one side and printed with 2 photographs on the other side. Also included is a loose 6" X 3" double sided pamphlet with Little Mattie Lou and Johnnie May "David and Jonathan" photograph on one side and a picture of a girl with a short narrative by (Miss) Amy A. Chadwick. Another loose piece of ephemera is a shaped and drawn barrel illustration with the address of the Orphan's Home on one side and printed verse composed by Amy Chadwick on the reverse side. From the brochure; "In April, 1890 , a Home was founded by Miss L. M. Lawson, her text being, "My God shall supply all your needs," and on Sept. 12, 1890, the House was chartered. In June 1903, Miss lawson resigned her work to Amy A. Chadwick because of failing health." Spelman College in Atlanta was a benefactor for the girl's Orphan home. As stated in the brochure, "Through the kindness of Miss Giles, President of Spelman Seminary, special arrangements are made for the children to attend that Institution, where they have excellent educational advantages." The brochure includes information on growth, education, domestic training, religious training, health, maintenance, buildings, donations of money, clothing and acknowledgments.
