The Cary Collection is delighted to present this incredibly scarce Paris 1987 'reprint' edition of Villa 'La Leopolda: A Description' originally privately published in 1939 w/ (22) sumptuous ppg profusely illustrated w/ b&w photos and floor plans!~ This spectacular villa was built by the noted Boston society architect Ogden Codman from 1929 to 1931 which he created by assembling a number of vernacular structures and their sites in the French Riviera resort town of Villefranche-sur-Mer~ It is his 'Masterpiece', the finest surviving expression of his esthetic, invoking the style of the Belle Epoque!~ Furthermore, today it is registered as a french 'Monument Historique'~ In 2008 the 10 acre sprawling estate on immaculate grounds was to have been acquired by the Russian precious metals mogul, 22x billionaire, Mikhail Prokhorov for a staggering 500M euros, but he was subsequently forced to forfeit his 39M euros down payment for being investigated in a prostitution probe!~ Previous owners included: Fiat tycoon, Gianni Agnelli in the 1950's/ Edmond Safra in 1988 & upon his death in 1999 his wife Lily inherited the estate & commissioned Renzo Mongiardino as interior designer whilst Mica Ertegun decorated the second-floor bedrooms!~ Thus a must-have folio for the tres-chic design connoisseur's bibliotheque!~ Bon Appetit!
