About this Item

The commanders of both ships were given orders to sail for the West Indies in the summer of 1800, with mention being made of privateering on American commerce there. The Insurgent sailed from Hampton Roads on 8 August 1800, and the Pickering sailed from New Castle, Delaware, on 20 August 1800, but they never returned. The Secretary of the Navy presumes that that they were both lost at sea in the equinoctial gale of September 1800. Small 8vo. [4] ff. Shaw & Shoemaker 3308. Bookseller Inventory # 12651
