About this Item

This first American edition is one of the Blue Jade Library Borzoi editions by Knopf. The letters are translated from the Latin by C. K. Scott Moncrief, with a prefatory letter by George Moore. The boards are navy with red binding on the spine with a gilt title. The top edge is gilt and the other edges are rough cut. There is bumping on the corners and top and bottom of spine, with a tiny gouge on the top front board. The gilt title has faded to a darkish color and the book looks it age, although it is tight and whole, with some uncut pages. The story of Abelard and Heloise remains one of the world's most dramatic and well-known love affairs. It is told through the letters of French philosopher Peter Abelard and his gifted pupil Heloise. Through their impassioned writings unfolds the story of a romance famous through the ages. Bookseller Inventory # 000721
