Original printed perfect-bound wraps; 243 pages. With a frontispiece photograph of the author's wife, Florence Hostetler Raymond, and three internal photographs, another of the wife and two of the author, all on coated paper. A compilation of the author's letters to his wife, from his stationing at Fort Snelling, Minnesota, to his service in France, and his return at the war's end. The author went on to a career as a partner in an Omaha law firm. Signed and inscribed by the author on the front endpaper to Omaha executive F[rederick.] H. Bucholz. Wraps show mild toning and edgewear, with a 1/4" tear at the head of the front fold. The paper has only faint marginal toning. A clean, tight copy. Scarce. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Contains the usual categories: poetry, stories, jokes, editorial commentary, sports, clubs, lists where graduates got jobs (Cadillac, Hudson, Ford) or went to college (U of M, Mich Agric College), etc. Ads for local businesses: Detroit Creamery, Sanders, Fyfe's, Macauley's Bookstore, Newcomb-Endicott, Wright, Kay and Co. Of particular interest are the lengthy letters written to "The Beacon" from soldiers serving in France and Archangel, Russia.
