About this Item

In this first major collection of his personal correspondence, MacLeish appears first as a fifteen-year-old prep school freshman having a difficult time adjusting to life away from home. Later as a Yale undergraduate learning to exercise his considerable intellectual powers. Later still, he is a student at Harvard Law School (from which he graduated at the head of his class), then as a soldier facing death at the front in World War I, then a lawyer practicing in Boston, then as a young writer in Paris.
