347 pages; 3/4 leather binding with marbled boards. Former owner's bookplate - "Private Library of H. Scofield #18025". and an inscription "Stephen S. Shapps from his brother Will, Christmas 1875". Josiah gilbert Holland (1819-1881) was an American writer, novelist and poet. He wrote under the pseudonym 'Timothy Titcomb'. and was one of the founder's of Scribner's Monthly which became the Century Magazine. During the second half of the 19th century he sold over a half million copies of his works. The volume is composed of a series of letters giving advice to young people and families.
