Book Description John Grant, Edinburgh, Scotland, 1926. Three-Quarter Leather. Book Condition: Very Good Minus. Catlin, George (illustrator). Originally published in London in 1841. Thjis early 20th century edition published in Edinburgh. Complete in two volumes. NOT ex-library. No remainder marks. Approximately 10 x 6.5 inches. Printed by Oliver and Boyd. Bound in gilt tooled three-quarter cherry red morocco, and with handsome patterned paper boards, the paper with a beige background and with red and green devices such as spears or arrows and the pastedowns and FEPs in the same patterned paper. Hubbed spines. Bindings largely unsoiled and quite attractive, though with some rubbing here and there, and the polished morocco with a lovely hand. Unfortunately the front board of Vol. I is completely detached but it is a very clean break and worthy of restoration. Topmost part of both spine heads, 1/8 inch, slightly degraded and fairly minor. With scarcely any trace of shelf pull. T.E.G. With viii and 376 and viii and 370 numbered pages. With 320 plates, as called for, carefully engraved from the author's original paintings. Most plates full-page, some half-page. Plus splendid, color fold-out map in fine condition opposite page 1 of Vol. I and fine color frontispiece map in Vol. II. No inscriptions, signatures, labels, bookplate, underlining, highlighting, or other marks observed. A hint of age toning to all pages of both volumes, quite minor. Else a remarkably clean set of two volumes and a handsome addition to any library shelf on Catlin art or the Indians of North America. Downgraded to Very Good Minus condition owing to the detached board and priced accordingly. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Bookseller Inventory # 006798
