This includes letters to Tacitus, among others, as well as letters describing the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, in which Pliny the Elder was killed. He also wrote on Christianity in the Roman world, among other subjects. Pliny the Younger was a lawyer and magistrate in ancient Rome. GOOD condition. Heavy scuffing to the leather on both volumes, with the hinges split and covers somewhat weakly attached to the binding. Minor soiling and staining to the covers. Spines very worn, with the leather cracked chipped and flaking, as well as loss to the head and tail. Ownership signatures present. Scattered moderate foxing and spotting throughout.
