Caroline Newton was a close friend of Thomas Mann and his family, offering her house in Rhode Island to him when he first moved to America from Germany in the late 1930s. She later helped him establish a home in Princeton. His letters to her not only are a record of his appreciation of her many kindnesses but also speak elouquently of his ceaseless public concern for the humane life. Bookseller Inventory #
