Frontispiece and plates. Original cloth, dust jacket in fair condition with several tears and repairs; portion of front end-paper cut away. Sticker of the Methodist Publishing House on the rear paste-down. First edition. Written by the archivist at the University of Texas (where the majority of Holley's papers are kept), this book details the life and works of one of the earliest female travelers to Texas in the 1830's and 40's, before it became a state. Despite being a somewhat overlooked figure in the past, Holley (1784-1846) is credited with writing the first English language history of the region entitled Texas. Observations. Historical, geographical and descriptive. This book contains a reprint of Holley's work, written in 1831 and published in 1833. Bookseller Inventory # 15062
