About this Item

first edition, first printing, not specifically indicted; in French; from the library of the anthropologist William H. Gilbert with his pencilled inscription on the front free endpaper (he purchased it from Stechert in New York on July 16, 1965) and pencilled date notation on the front cover, and also my bookplate affixed to the ffep stating that I had received it from him on November 23, 1979, cover sunned, front cover detached, fully cut open but clean, unmarked, and little used, rated Fair; it is interesting to speculate that in the darkest days of WW2 for Belgium, van Windekens might have been allowed to continue with publication because of his subject matter; would interest researchers, students, and collectors of books on the Tocharian language, Indo-European, historical linguistics, and comparative reconstruction; soft covers are dark beige with black lettering on the front, spine, and back; 4to -- 27 cm high x 18 mm wide; LV + 217 numbered pages. Store Description

Triple G Books is owned and operated by an emeritus professor of linguistics, who was also an ardent book collector over the period 1954 to 2007. Books for sale range from linguistics, pidgin & creole languages, sociolinguistics, anthropology, education, and comparative religion through modern first editions and German and Scandinavian books. A number of the books are valuable and hard to find, as for example a 1/2-leather-bound first edition of Alfred Russell Wallace's The Malay Archipelago (2 vols.), recently sold for presentation to the Mayor of London on his visit to Malaysia, and a first edition of H. G. Wells' The Time Machine, a novel of the 19th century pointing to a scary future, a continuing revelation to me. Triple G Books stands back of its books in every way.
